Since 2018, several projects have been carried out on the use of public transit by people with disabilities, in collaboration with public transit companies and community organizations.
For example, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) has undertaken a public transit learning program entitled “Mobilité inclusive”. Being able to use the bus and metro with confidence opens up a wider range of transportation options, enhancing the independence of people with disabilities. Our research has demonstrated the effectiveness of this program. The “Inclusive Mobility” program has since been extended to the entire network of the Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain (STM, STL, RTL, Exo), and we are continuing our evaluation study on it.
Another project, funded by OPHQ and REPAR, looked at the use of public transit to facilitate access to employment. This research led to proposals for people with disabilities, employment agencies and transit companies. The results are available in the form of infographics. A written report is also available (see section 2024 on this page; in French).
